Police arrest three high school students

ST. PETERS--Three St. Maarten Academy students were arrested on Tuesday following a report that a gun had been taken into the school and had been thrown over a wall at the institution.

A 19-year-old student who said she was a witness told The Daily Herald, "It happened today after 11:00am. There had been a couple of fights and the principal called in the police. We were all told to go to a classroom, which we did.

"The boys in the class were playing about being a bit rough and just dragging each other about. They were not fighting or anything, just messing about. The police were very rough with them. Then they handcuffed the boys and took them off in the police car."

The witness said she intended to complain about the actions of the police, which she said had been uncalled-for.

G.M., S.S., and R.F. were arrested. Two of them are 18 and one is 19.

When asked, police spokesman Inspector Ricardo Henson said the young men had been taken to the police station following rude and obnoxious behaviour to police officers who were at the scene, and not in connection with the firearm incident. Their parents were called and informed about the behaviour.

It is not known whether any charges will be brought against them.
