Man gets 11 years for killing sister

PHILIPSBURG--The court sentenced Riviere George (42) of Dominica on Wednesday to eleven years with a six-month reduction, for murdering his older sister Angela le Blanc-George (42), also of Dominica, in her Sucker Garden home on April 22, 2010.

The Prosecutor's Office had requested a 12-year sentence for George. He was given the six-month reduction of his 11-month sentence because he had been held six weeks longer in a prison cell than he should have, which in the Dutch law is equivalent to six months.

George, who has been in detention since last May, showed up to hear his fate with a black eye and a white bandage that covered a gash to his head. These wounds apparently were received during an altercation at the Pointe Blanche prison.

George had denied murdering his sister throughout the trial, claiming that they had a close relationship.

Initial reports had indicated that Angela le Blanc-George had died of natural causes, but later investigations proved that foul play was involved. A doctor's report stated that the woman had died of strangulation. Also, DNA investigations indicated that bloodstains found on Riviere George's pants were his sister's.
