GRONINGEN--Calix W. (52) from St. Maarten sexually abused his daughter since she was six years old. He made her pregnant when she was 11. The man is now on trial and the Dutch Public Prosecutor's Office on Monday demanded ten years in prison.
Horrific details emerged during Monday's trial in Groningen, The Netherlands. According to the Prosecutor, the suspect started sexually abusing his daughter when she was six years old. She was sexually abused at least 300 times over a period of several years.
The daughter delivered a healthy baby girl during a school trip just outside the city of Groningen in March last year, when she was just 12 years old. Initially the man denied that he had made his daughter pregnant, but a DNA test proved that he was indeed the father.
The Prosecutor said that the daughter would be scarred for the rest of her life, also because she would always remain the mother of her father's child. The Prosecution demanded ten years, two years under the maximum punishment for sexually abusing a person under the age of 12.
On the order of the Court, the father had to undergo extensive psychological testing at the Pieter Baan detention centre for psychiatric observation in Utrecht. That is why the trial took long to materialise.
In 1995 a Court in The Netherlands sentenced W. to 15 months in jail for sexually abusing one of his other daughters in 1994 and 1995, who at that time was also 12.
When W. left prison, he made two more children, including the girl that he made pregnant. The mother left in 2002. In 2004 W. was granted guardianship over the two minor children, despite the earlier conviction for incest. The Court didn't know about the earlier sexual abuse, because the file had been destroyed in keeping with the laws on privacy.
The daughter and the baby, along with her younger brother, are living with a foster family and have been placed under the supervision of the Youth Care Bureau.
