PHILIPSBURG--A junior officer (Bavpol) in the local police force E.V. was detained on Monday, April 23, around 6:00pm and is being held in custody as a suspect in an ongoing criminal investigation of a crime committed in 2009.
The initial complaint did not indicate any obvious link between the junior officer and the criminal offense. However, as a result of persistent investigation and a new investigative method (case screening) conducted by detectives and Police Internal Affairs, E.V. was identified as a suspect in a crime committed prior to his enrolment in the Police Force.
E.V. has been suspended from carrying out his duties pending the results of the investigation.
