Arrindell ends relationship with KLM after 24 years

page5b154AIRPORT--Frank Arrindell of Arrindell Aviation Services (AAS) made quite a spectacle of the last day that the company handled the Dutch airline on Tuesday.

As previously announced, the company ended its 24 year ground-handling services of KLM after an agreement could not be reached with KLM's majority stakeholder, Air France, on a new handling contract.

Arrindell also provided services for Air France for the past 10 years, but the two European carriers will now be handled by Halley Aviation.

This fact however, did not stop Arrindell from making a celebration out of KLM's last day under the AAS umbrella. The airline received the treatment similar to that of a new airline starting service to the destination. The pomp included traditional wetting down of the 747 aircraft, a small reception on the jet-bridge and a presentation to the captain of the aircraft who coincidentally is hanging up his wings.

Arrindell presented the captain and his crew with gifts from St. Maarten including bottles of Guavaberry rum. He described the run with KLM as a great one for both sides, supported by a strong and understanding working relationship. The decision to part ways was strictly a business one by Air France's head office in Paris.

Arrindell Aviation Services has not been sitting idly by though, strengthening its position in St Maarten last week by joining Signature Flight Support's growing global network. The company is now called Arrindell Aviation by Signature.

Signature Flight Support Corporation is the world's largest fixed-base operation (FBO) and distribution network for business aviation services. Signature services include fueling, hangar and office rentals, ground handling, maintenance and a wide range of crew and passenger amenities at strategic domestic and international locations. Headquartered in Orlando, Florida, Signature currently operates at more than 100 locations in the United States, Europe, South America, Africa and Asia.
