WILLEMSTAD--Professor Hans Weitenberg has resigned as president of the Committee for Financial Supervision CFT due to health problems. He has notified Dutch Minister of Internal Affairs and Kingdom Relations Piet Hein Donner of his decision and the Kingdom Council of Ministers is expected to decide soon on a new CFT president.
Weitenberg started out in 2007 as CFT president. As of 2007 CFT supervised the public finances of Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba based on a General Decree of the Kingdom. In 2008 Cura�ao and St. Maarten followed. After the dismantling of the Netherlands Antilles in October 2010, two new CFT boards emerged and Weitenberg assumed the presidency of both.
According to a CFT press release, Weitenberg managed to build up CFT, which was controversial at its start, to an authoritative institution. Because of his knowledge of public finances and his love for and involvement in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom, Weitenberg soon became a respected and appreciated supervisor. "His integrity and fairness made him an unquestioned person for all parties in the Kingdom. This eased the way for CFT to develop into a completely independent institute that stands above all parties."
CFT Cura�ao and St. Maarten consists now of Margo Vliegenthart as member for the Netherlands, Alberto Romero for Cura�ao and Richard Gibson Sr. for St. Maarten. For the CFT board responsible for Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba, Max Pandt is the member together with Vliegenthart.
