Leonard clocks highest attendance in Parliament, Hyacinth lowest

PHILIPSBURG--United People's (UP) party Member of Parliament (MP) Johan Leonard has clocked in the highest attendance in Parliament for the 2010-2011 Parliamentary Year. The lowest attendance was that of National Alliance (NA) MP Hyacinth Richardson (30 per cent).

According to President of Parliament Gracita Arrindell's attendance sheet compiled as part of her year report that was submitted to MPs at the close of the Parliamentary Year on September 12, Leonard had an attendance of 98 per cent, even higher than Arrindell who scored 85 per cent. During Arrindell's absence Central Committee meetings and General Parliament sessions were chaired by Deputy President of Parliament Leroy de Weever.

The attendance sheet covers the MPs' attendance at Central Committee meetings, plenary sessions and meetings of the permanent committees of which they are members.

UP faction leader MP Romain Laville's attendance was 63 per cent. MPs Jules James and Dr. Ruth Douglass of UP scored 82 per cent and 83 per cent respectively, despite having full time jobs as a resort manager and medical doctor. MP Silvia Meyers (UP) had a 70 per cent attendance to meetings.

Democratic Party (DP) MP De Weever had a 62 per cent attendance. He was unable to attend meetings particularly from August to September due to his recovery from surgery taking longer than anticipated. DP faction leader MP Roy Marlin had an 82 per cent attendance.

Independent MP Patrick Illidge had an 83 per cent attendance record for meetings of Parliament.

National Alliance (NA) faction leader MP William Marlin's attendance at parliament meetings was tallied at 45 per cent. Marlin also battled illness mid-year. MP George Pantophlet (NA) had a 72 per cent score. MP Dr. Lloyd Richadson (NA), who continues his medical practice, has an 87 per cent attendance while MP Louie Laveist (NA) had a 35 per cent.

MP Frans Richardson, then still a member of NA, had an attendance score of 53 per cent. He declared himself an independent Member of Parliament on September 12 and also resigned from the National Alliance.

Six MPs of the United People's (UP) party scored the highest collective attendance to parliament meetings, followed by independent MP Patrick Illidge with 83 per cent, the two-member DP faction with 76 per cent and the six-member NA with 64 per cent.

Overall attendance of MPs at meeting was 86 per cent, according to Arrindell's report.
