Copa to add fourth flight in December

PHILIPSBURG--Minister of Tourism Franklin Meyers announced on Tuesday that Panamanian airline Copa will be adding a fourth weekly flight out of Panama commencing December 17. Copa Airlines will use an Embraer 190AR with a seating capacity of 100.

Since starting service on December 18, 2010, the average load factor has been 68 per cent with most passengers originating in Panama followed by 18 per cent from Sao Paulo, Brazil and 18 per cent from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

"I am very pleased that Copa Airlines has added an additional flight bringing the total to four weekly flights out of Panama. Recently, I also announced that the same airline had added a third weekly flight. This demonstrates the airline's confidence in the destination and the potential that our country offers to the Latin American traveller," Meyers said.

"We will be marketing ourselves aggressively in the emerging markets of Latin America. Copa airlines offers great potential and we are working closely with them to develop this relationship even further," Meyers added.

After months of negotiations, Copa's service to St. Maarten was sealed in 2010 by former Commissioner of Tourism Frans Richardson.
