Sehnaoui enters 2nd floor of telecoms building September

BEIRUT: Telecoms Minister Nicolas Sehnaoui entered the second floor of the Telecoms building Friday, after a similar incident earlier this year saw the then-minister prevented from entering it by security personnel.?This is a happy day for everyone who believes in the state and in the strength of its institutions. Today, the Telecoms Ministry reclaimed what is the ministry?s property after it moved out of the state?s jurisdiction,? Sehnaoui told reporters after breaking a lock on the doors leading to the floor. In May, personnel from the ISF?s Information Branch barred caretaker Telecoms Minister Charbel Nahhas and ministry technicians from entering the second floor, which houses telecoms equipment, at the building in the Beirut neighborhood of Adlieh.Security personnel stopped Nahhas from transferring equipment belonging to Ogero to the facilities of mtc touch. The stand-off was resolved shortly after when the Lebanese Army took control of the telecoms building, including securing the second floor after members of the Information Branch vacated the place. The main point of contention for the former minister was the presence of armed forces on the floor where the equipment was stored, without the knowledge or approval of the Telecoms or Interior ministries.Nahhas was criticized by March 14 politicians for overstepping his prerogatives, while the March 8 camp said the ISF had erred by ignoring the orders of the interior minister who opted to stop performing his ministerial duties as a result of the incident.
