Detective ?Chicki? dies in collision

SIMPSON BAY--Detective Anthony Francisco Elisabeth, better known by his colleagues as "Chicki" died in a collision Thursday around 9:00pm while commuting from Maho to Simpson Bay.

Elisabeth was driving his motorcycle on Airport Boulevard and crashed into the back of a white bus (Bus 192) at a high rate of speed in the vicinity of the Red Cross building.

As news of the accident spread rapidly, several police patrols and members of the force showed up at the crash site.

On arrival of emergency services, Elizabeth was showing no signs of life and after he was pronounced dead, his body was transported immediately to Emerald Funeral Home where, as the news of the tragedy spread rapidly, family members and friends gathered to mourn his sudden passing.

A mournful Inspector Ricardo Henson confirmed the collision and that Elizabeth had died as a result of the injuries sustained in the accident.

Police Chief Commissioner Peter de Witte who was at the scene of the accident with many fellow officers and described the atmosphere and what the loss meant for the Police Force and for the community: "This is the biggest loss a police force can suffer. Not only was he a great detective, he was a great person. Everyone here at the scene is ... I don't think there are words that can describe this kind of sadness.

"Our condolences go out to his family. Today St. Maarten lost a great detective. He will be missed."

Elisabeth was in his mid 40s.
