Family and friends of the late Eldridge van Putten gathered on Friday to pay their last respects to the once vocal union leader and social activists. Government officials and even persons with whom Van Putten have had many public spats were also on hand for the service at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Cole Bay. In the week leading up to his burial, friends and associates remembered Van Putten primarily as someone who dared to be different and challenged the status quo. He was laid to rest in the Cape Bay cemetery.
