Pantophlet queries Jet Ski moratorium

PHILIPSBURG--National Alliance (NA) Member of Parliament (MP) George Pantophlet, is acting on information received that Economic Affairs Minister Franklin Meyers wants to grant a Jet Ski operation licence despite a moratorium being in place. He will be writing the minister to get clarity on the situation.

Pantophlet said in a press release on Sunday that the Ministry of Economic Affairs, according to his information has issued a negative advice on the licence. "Seemingly the minister is neglecting the advice of the department and has requested that the documents be sent to him as he plans to approve the permit for the Jet Ski."

He wants to know from Meyers if he indeed intends to approve this request against the department's advice. "There is so much going on that is not transparent. Now, the people can understand the need for a Corporate Governance Council, not enough eyes and ears."

The MP said stakeholders who object to the possible granting of the licence are preparing to follow legal recourse.

In his letter, Pantophlet plans to ask Meyers for the number of people who have Jet Ski licences, when and why the moratorium was placed, and criteria for Jet Ski licence holders to adhere to.
