Wescot-Williams, Schotte to write Governors about bank nominees

PHILIPSBURG--Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams and Curaao Prime Minister Gerrit Schotte have drafted identical letters stating their nominees for the Supervisory Board of the Central Bank of Curaao and St. Maarten that will be sent to the Governors of the two countries.

Wescot-Williams is in Curaao on a working visit that has included discussions about the Central Bank.

St. Maarten's nominees had been ratified by the Council of Ministers on December 14. Later, nominee attorney Ralph Richardson withdrew and on April 19 attorney Jairo Bloem was approved to replace him. Once appointed, Bloem will serve with the country's other two nominees businessman Robbie Ferron and tax consultant Marciela Illidge.

Curaao's candidates for the bank board are Nelson Navarro, Glenn Camelia and Remy Maduro. They were approved by that country's Council of Ministers on March 23.

Both countries will issue national decrees with the names of the six nominees, Wescot-Williams said in a press statement. The two governors will be informed of the six nominees via the letters from the two prime ministers.

The bank charter stipulates that the chairman of the bank board should be a joint decision. It was agreed that Curaao and St. Maarten's finance ministers would consult further on this matter, according to Wescot-Williams.
