CFT starts 12-day visit to the islands

WILLEMSTAD--The Committee for Financial Supervision CFT began a twelve-day visit to Cura�ao, St. Maarten, Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba as of Monday, May 9, during which new CFT Secretary Kees van Nieuwamerongen will be introduced.

According to a CFT press release, the Dutch Minister of Internal Affairs and Kingdom Relations has appointed Van Nieuwamerongen as the new secretary for Cura�ao and St. Maarten and for the public entities Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba, based on a proposal of CFT President Hans Weitenberg.

As of July, the two-year term of incumbent Secretary Geert Bergsma will end. Van Nieuwamerongen?s appointment will take effect on July 1 and will be for three years.

Van Nieuwamerongen has held several (management) positions at the Dutch Ministry of Finance. He was, among other roles, Head of the Antilles Team between 2006 and 2009 and in that position he stood at the basis of the various laws regulating financial supervision.

Afterwards the new secretary became Director of Administration Assistance and Project Manager of the Audit Management Guide of the Health Sector at the Dutch Ministry of Public Health, Welfare and Sports.

Van Nieuwamerongen studied General Economics at Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam.
