James takes Laville’s threats very seriously

PHILIPSBURG--United People's (UP) party Member of Parliament (MP) Jules James has filed a police report against former UP colleague, now independent MP Romain Laville, who threatened to shoot him during a heated confrontation that started at the door of the General Assembly Hall of Parliament House and ended in the foyer on Monday, after a Parliament session came to a close.

Laville said in front of numerous witnesses, including fellow MPs, that if he had his gun he would shoot James. He also challenged James to a fight.

Laville started to speak to James about what he considered James' constant jabs about his leaving UP. The conversation escalated with Laville threatening to hit James' and threatening his life. Fellow MPs swung into action to put distance between the two men.

Among the witnesses to the skirmish were Finance Minister Roland Tuitt and his staff and some staff of Parliament.

Laville left the building shortly after the incident. James went to the Philipsburg police station to give his statement sometime later. The matter is now in the hands of the police for investigation.
