Jacobs tells pupils to always strive for best

page1a008HOPE ESTATE--Minister of Education Silveria Jacobs encouraged elementary school pupils on Friday to strive to be the very best and always give top efforts no matter where they are today.

The minister was addressing pupils, teachers and organisers of the third annual Public School Career Day held at the Senior Citizens Centre in Hope Estate.

She was joined by Head of the Public Education division at the Education Ministry Glenderlin Davis-Holiday and representatives from 13 businesses and organisations, as pupils from various public schools took turns to ask questions and to learn about what each business or organisation has to offer.

The minister praised the organisers of the event, but challenged them to stage a similar career day at the start of the school year when children are more motivated. She suggested that they cater especially to sixth graders. This group, she said, is more likely to have their dreams set in their minds and hearts and would most benefit from a career day.

Jacobs said she looks forward to being present at the next career day, since it is important to show young people that they have a future on the island and give them a glimpse of what that future could entail.

Davis-Holiday said the theme this school year for the public schools is "Cooperation" and the career day is a prime example of what cooperation among the schools could yield. She congratulated the organising team and reminded the gathering that the public schools are a group that is second to none. "I can say to anyone that once you have been taught by public school teachers you can't go wrong," she said.

Jacobs and Davis-Holiday together declared the career day open.
