Storm water pump

page1a199Minister of Infrastructure Theo Heyliger (second left) was on hand on Tuesday when one of the three new storm water pumps for the Philipsburg area was off-loaded and placed into the pump house in Sucker Garden. The pump replaces the old pump that was 55 years old (1956). It will be put online by January 19. The two other pumps, which will be placed in a new pump house at the Public Works yard on Pond Island, should be on island by mid February and put online soon thereafter. "The primary goal of the project is within a relatively short period to provide Suckergarden, Around the Pond, Pond Island and the Philipsburg area with a suitable and reliable storm water pumping facility. Seeing that Salt Pond also functions as a discharge area for any high level water situations in Fresh Pond, it's important to have the necessary pumping capacity. This will also prevent the low lying areas of Zagersgut to be flooded," the Minister said. Also pictured are Leendert Smaal of contractor Smaal N.V. (far left) and Head of the Maintenance Department of the Ministry of VROMI Claudius Buncamper).
