PHILIPSBURG--Glen Carty has resigned as a member of the board of the St. Maarten Chamber of Commerce and Industry after serving as President for three consecutive years.

Carty, whose last term as president ended on December 31, had another year to serve on the board. He submitted his resignation letter to the Chamber on Wednesday and plans to continue to serve Country St. Maarten in a different capacity.

Carty had informed the board at its last meeting for 2011 in December that he would not be vying for any of the executive board positions. Those positions will be voted on this Friday.

The Chamber held elections in December 2 to elect three new board members.

Carty told The Daily Herald Wednesday that after three years as president, he felt that it was time for him to move on and serve St. Maarten in a different capacity. He said he was happy about the things the chamber board had managed to accomplish during his tenure as president?things such as finalising the financials of the Chamber for the past years. He said the Chamber has grown to become a force to be reckoned with over the years.

Carty is also Chief Operations Officer (COO) of United Telecommunications Services (UTS) Eastern Caribbean. He also owns Van Dorp stationary supplies stores, Philipsburg Broadcasting radio network with four stations on the FM dial (Laser 101, Oasis 96.3, Tropixx 105.7 and Mix 94.7), and is in the real estate business.
