Damages to Welikada prison Rs 4.7 million:Minister

The damages caused to the Welikada remand prisons  building caused by Tuesday’s clashes has been estimated at Rs. 4.7 million,  Minister of  Prisons Reforms Chandrasiri Gajadeera told Times online.
 
The minister today visited the prisons to assess the damages.
 
The damages have been caused to the record room, stores, laundry, medical section and the main ward of the prisons.
 
He said that though the record room has been damaged the cases against the prisoners will continue as the backup files are available.
