SriLankan Airlines to fly dozens of Sai Baba mourners

SriLankan Airlines is adding extra capacity to its flights and ?if necessary have special charters - to accommodate Sri Lankan devotees preparing to pay their respects to Indian ?holyman? Sri Sathya Sai Baba, who died on Sunday.�

The funeral of the 84 year-old saintly spiritual eader who counts former Indian Prime Minister A.B.Vajpayee, Indian cricket star Sachin Tendulkar and Hollywood actress Goldie Hawn and thousands of other devotees across the world, will be held on Wednesday, an event that is expected to draw over 500,000 mourners.

He died at an Andhra Pradesh hospital on Sunday after being admitted on March 29 suffering from pneumonia and water that had entered the lungs.

Sai Baba has hundreds of followers in Sri Lanka many of who have been praying at special shrines here for his recovery over the past week. SriLankan Airlines said in a statement that it will have additional capacity on their daily flights to Bangalore from Tuesday April 26 onwards ? in order to accommodate all� devotees who wish to� fly to India to pay final homage to their spiritual leader?.

It said this came at the request of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse and noted that the airline will also consider adding some special charters to facilitate the travel of all the devotees. ? ENDS -
