George wants to know about new harbour land

POINTE BLANCHE--National Alliance (NA) Member of Parliament George Pantophlet wants to know more details about the land created in the Dr. A.C. Wathey Cruise and Cargo Facilities when the second cruise ship pier was built in 2008-2009.

Pantophlet said in a press statement that he will be sending several questions about the land to Deputy Prime Minister/Harbour Affairs Minister Theo Heyliger about the land reclamation. He said it is important that the people of St. Maarten, who are owners/shareholders of the St. Maarten Harbour Group of Companies, get more detailed information on the land.

He wants to know from Heyliger the size of the land, if there is a Letter of Admeasurement (meetbrief), when the filling in started and was completed, who owns the land and by which agreement was the land filled in.

Pantophlet also queried the cost of filling in the area, value of the land, the contractor/s that did the filling in and cost of the planned project, and if these were discussed in a General Shareholder's meeting.

The MP's questions were sparked by an aerial photo published in this newspaper of the harbour facilities and adjoining area on Wednesday, March 16. He said his queries are based on "transparency."
