Tourists catch chain-snatcher

PHILIPSBURG--K.H.S.R., a young chain-snatcher, was caught and reprimanded by police on Thursday.

A police patrol was sent to a school on Front Street to investigate a chain-snatching around 2:20pm. At the location officers met the victims, a couple from a visiting cruise ship. K.H.S.R. was being restrained by persons assisting the couple until officers arrived.

The female victim told police that the suspect had pulled her gold chain from her neck and run away. The couple chased the suspect and caught up with him in a nearby alley. The stolen chain was found in the immediate area and returned to the lady. The couple requested that K.H.S.R. be severely reprimanded rather than charged with attempted theft.

K.H.S.R. was held at the police station until his mother arrived. When she arrived, officers reprimanded the youth and informed him of the negative consequences his behaviour would have in the future, after which he was released to his mother's care.
