Motorcyclist is fatally injured

Page5a210DEFIANCE--Mabouto Mitchell (22) was fatally injured in a head-on collision with a Daihatsu Jeep at 6:30am on Sunday.

The accident occurred on the new Oyster Pond Road near Bishop Hill Road

when two motorcyclists who appeared to be racing from Border Bar towards Philipsburg were overtaking a black Hyundai Getz heading in the same direction.

The victim of the accident crashed head-on into the front of a grey Daihatsu that was travelling in the opposite direction. The paramedics treated the victim on the scene and then rushed him to the hospital where he died shortly afterward.

The Police Traffic and Forensic Departments are investigating to determine exactly what happened. The police are requesting the rider of the other motorcycle, who was present at the time of this accident, to report to the Traffic Department to give a statement with regard to what exactly happened.
