Joint controls coming soon to ensure law compliance

PHILIPSBURG--Joint controls by various government agencies are planned for the last quarter of this year to ensure there is adequate compliance with laws and other regulations. The objective is to guarantee quality service to residents and visitors by making sure establishments adhere to the rules and regulations that govern their operations.

According to the Department of Communication DComm, the Control and Inspection Departments of Economic Affairs, Public Health and Labour and the Fire Department will be part of the joint spot check controls.

Businesses are required to have all documentation, such as a business licence, operational licence, labour registration, personnel list, work schedules, overtime, wage cards, insurance documents and employment permits all in order and available for inspection.

The conditions of the restaurants and other establishments that serve food will be checked for food and fire safety.

Businesses must meet codes and maintain safety code requirements as outlined in the regulations about the number of fire extinguishers (serviced annually), fire emergency exits, exit signs, emergency lights, gas bottles and installation, building structure and electrical wiring.
