Hiro: 2012 budget balanced, some NAf 11 million more than last year

PHILIPSBURG--Government has finally come to a balanced budget after months of back-and-forth between the seven ministries and the Council of Ministers. The draft 2012 country budget stands at NAf. 432,549,600 ? NAf. 11,633,003 more than this year's budget of NAf. 420,916,597.

Finance Minister Hiro Shigemoto said in a statement issued late last night that preparations were underway to send the draft budget to the Committee for Financial Supervision CFT following approval by the Council of Ministers on Monday.

CFT should return an advice on the budget within two weeks of receiving the draft. The advice and draft budget then will be sent officially to the Advisory Council for its perusal.

Once the Council of Ministers has received the draft budget from the Advisory Council, it will be forwarded to Parliament via Governor Eugene Holiday. Parliament needs to debate and approve the budget before the end of December to be in compliance with the Kingdom Law on Temporary Financial Supervision for Curaao and St. Maarten.
