One shuts down on own accord
PHILIPSBURG--Of the ten day care centres initially facing closure for failing to comply with the Ordinance related to the operation of day care centres, three have been closed temporarily, while the management of one centre decided on its own to shut down the facility.
This is according to Inspector of Day Care Centres Denise Cornet. The Inspectorate Department had announced Monday that ten of the 38 registered day care centres were facing immediate closure.
The three centres that have been temporarily closed were given until January 10 before 5:00pm to submit the remainder of the required documentation to the Inspectorate Department to avoid closure.
Cornet said the department's focus is to tackle safety, hygiene, and nutrition, which were issues with majority of the centres.
The centres that have remained open cater to approximately 1,200 children. Documents required for a license are: Chamber of Commerce registration, proof of labour registration, deed of the foundation, letter requesting permit to open a day care centre, crib number (tax office), and payment for the license at the Receivers Office.
Additional requirements include evacuation and floor plans (approved by the fire department), insurance for the number of children, their names and residence permits (permanent/temporary), daily routine (monthly/yearly), list of current workers and their diplomas, diploma of the owner/director, house rules, menu list, proof of water and electricity supply, and sewage removal and pest control plans.
