Calls for Fonseka's release on 1st anniversary of his arrest

The Movement for Democracy led by the JVP held a sit down protest opposite the Welikada prison this afternoon calling for the release of jailed former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka.

Today marked the first anniversary of the day on which Mr.Fonseka was taken into custody by the army.

JVP Leader Somawansa Amarasinghe who addressed the crowd of around 1000 who had gathered near the prison where the former Commander is being held asked the government to immediately release him.

His wife, Anoma Fonseka pledged to carry on her struggle to have him freed.
