Shooter ignores mother and child
COLE BAY--A man was shot on Well Road, despite the proximity of a woman carrying her child to the house.
The incident happened approximately 75 yards from the Ace Mega centre car park at a house on the opposite side of the road around 2:45pm Thursday.
The victim F.B. was at the front of his house when a car with two men pulled up. They demanded that he accompany them. He refused to do so and turned to walk away from them. Two shots were fired and F.B. was hit in the right leg. The offenders then fled the scene.
The original dispute between the men, who are known to each other, concerned the theft of a motorcycle. The suspects returned some time after the original dispute and that is when the shooting incident occurred.
Police attended and closed off the scene for forensic examination. The victim was taken to St. Maarten Medical Center for treatment, but his injuries were not considered to be serious. Detectives are investigating the reasons behind the shooting and the identity of the perpetrators.
The mother of the child who was close to the shooting scene and lives at the victim's house was clearly shocked by the incident.
A local person at the scene said, "These are low people that have no respect for the mother and baby. They got their issues maybe, but the baby is no part of that."
