PHILIPSBURG--Minister of Energy Theo Heyliger said on Monday that he still had not been informed of any decisions to appoint a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Chief Operations Officer (COO) to form a Managing Board for utilities company GEBE.
Heyliger said he had not heard from the board of GEBE's Shareholding Foundation or GEBE's Supervisory Board and added, "This is what you get with a hands-off approach from government."
The Daily Herald was reliably informed that the GEBE Shareholding Foundation had appointed a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Chief Operations Officer (COO) for the company to form a Managing Board. The two persons appointed reportedly were nominated by the Supervisory Board, but up to press time last night, this newspaper could not ascertain their names.
The Daily Herald learnt on Wednesday last week that the appointments had been made on Tuesday, November 29, during a meeting of the Shareholding Foundation. No official of GEBE's Shareholding Foundation or Supervisory Board has been available for comment or replied to inquiries about the appointments since then, despite many efforts to contact them.
Not clear is when the tenures of the new CFO and COO commence, for what time period they have been appointed, whether they would stay on as part of GEBE St. Maarten after January 1, who they are and what qualifies them to hold the positions. Also unclear is what will become of the current financial manager and interim Managing Director.
