Pump repaired and back online

PHILIPSBURG--The water pump in Sucker Garden was repaired and put back online on Monday night, a day earlier than expected and by the "extremely exhausted" crew of the Maintenance Department of the Ministry of VROMI.

According to Head of the Department Claudius Buncamper, the men that form this pump crew have literally been working 24 hours a days, 7 days a week for the past three and a half weeks. He said all efforts were put into getting the pump to St. Maarten by rush service, so that it could be put back online to avoid a flooding catastrophe in Philipsburg.

The pump will run around the clock until the water in Great Salt Pond has been reduced to acceptable levels. The entire process should take a few days.

Besides having to man the pumps, the crew is also busy with patching of roads and district cleaning. "So as you can imagine, the guys are extremely exhausted, but they continue to work to safeguard the capital and surrounding areas and by extension the residents of these areas," Buncamper said.
