35 graduate from St. Dominic High

Page7C179SOUTH REWARD--Thirty-five students graduated from St. Dominic High at a ceremony at the school Wednesday evening attended by family, friends and dignitaries, including Acting Governor Reynold Groeneveldt and Education Minister Dr. Rhoda Arrindell.

The students graduated with at least five college and/or university passes, which make them eligible to enter College or University with the possibility of government study financing, once they meet the requirements of the Division of Study Financing.

The speakers at the ceremony encouraged the graduates to be the best they can be in their own way and to help Country St Maarten.

Chairperson of the Catholic School Board Dr. Marlon Halley urged parents to be there for their children, even if they are already "on their own."

He said they were still "young adults and need support and encouraging words from you as a parent."

The 2002 valedictorian Komal Ramchandani, a clinical psychologist, gave what was described as a realistic and encouraging message to the graduating students.

Valedictorian Edwina Wong said students appreciated their teachers' commitment for pushing them. In an emotional digital media presentation graduate Ashlee Richardson shared with her colleagues the "nostalgia of the high school years."

Three graduates using modern technology were able to view the graduation ceremony from the Netherlands, while their parents were physically present.

Teachers were commended by several speakers for going beyond the extra mile in helping to mould the students.
