Five sentenced to death in Tangalle

Five persons were sentenced to death by Tangalle High Court judge Chandrasena Rajapaksa over a murder they carried out 15 years back.

The family members collectively hacked to death 32 year old Liyanaarachchi Vijitha from Getamanna, Beliatta.

Those sentenced were Gunwathi Abeywickrema (mother) her three sons - Osmand Chamin, Richard Shantha and Austin Gamini and her daughter in law Menaka Damayanthi . A sixth accused passed away while the trial was pending.
