MARIGOT--The Gendarmerie is warning the public and tourists not to walk around flashing expensive jewellery and neck chains, as a gang is currently suspected of snatching jewellery from unsuspecting persons walking in the centre of Marigot.
The Gendarmerie has received numerous complaints from victims. The method is usually to attack the victim from behind, snatch the jewellery and escape towards Bellevue. Last Wednesday at 3:30pm a motorist reported being robbed as she was sitting in her car in a traffic jam and a shopkeeper was robbed after he was surrounded by three youths, one of whom threatened to use a Tazer gun.
The Gendarmerie is searching actively for the thieves. It is thought the gang has a getaway car to escape to the Dutch side.
