Fifty one persons attempting to leave for Australia in trawlers were taken into custody by the Navy early this morning from two different locations in Negombo.
Thirty one of them were taken into custody 10 nautical miles off Negombo, while 20 others were taken into custody from the fishing village of Lellama, Navy spokesman Kosala Warnakulasuriya said.
All 51 persons were brought to Modera to be handed over to the CID.
