Police emergency service expanded

The police Emergency Service now also popular as the 119 today further expanded its services with 10 more additional telephone lines to meet the increasing demand from the public.

Inspector General of Police N.K.Illangakoon launched the second stage of the expansion project at the Mirihana Communiction division.

The emergency service which responded to 5,000 calls annually  when it was launched in 2004 today handles more than 430,000 calls per year with an average of 3,450 calls per day.

According to police statistics of the calls received during the day 1,600 are complaints while 200 are false information or complaints.
