The Police have issued a travel ban Wednesday on members of former president Mohamed Nasheed's administration, pending investigations into possible abuses of power.
Nasheed resigned yesterday following weeks of anti-government protests capped by a police mutiny, which Nasheed's political party said amounted to a "coup d'etat."
Haveeru has learned that over 50 members of Nasheed’s administration which includes Ministers, State Ministers and parliament members have been placed in the travel ban.
Police media official has confirmed that investigations were ongoing into the actions of several members of the former administration during the recent events in the country.
Rumors are rife that Hulhu-henveiru MP Moosa “Reeko” Manik and Chairperson of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) was prevented from leaving the country by the police whilst he was at the airport.
However, police have refused to confirm the incident and all attempts to contact Manik to confirm the incident have also failed.
