Oregano & Olive Oil: The TABO Initiative

alt

{Kuwait-PalTelegraph} TABO is a company that runs under UCI { Union Construction & Investment }. TABO aims to offer affordable land in Palestine, it emerged as a way to combat the growing settlement threat and to make it easier for Palestinian and Arab nationals to acquire affordable land plots in Palestine.
The General Manager of TABO is Engineer Khaled Al-Sabawi, who also runs MENA Geothermal a company that aims to bring green energy to Palestine.

Khaled Al-Sabawi along with other staff members from TABO were in Kuwait on the 16th of May, presenting the idea of the company to Palestinian & Arab nationals residing in Kuwait.

The event began by a small speech that was given by Darwish AbdulNabi, the general secretariat of the Palestinian union for Palestinian writers and journalists in Kuwait.
AbdulNabi started his speech by elaborating about the need to reclaim Palestine and how ownership of land in Palestine, is a solid and viable method of combating Israeli expansion, also pointing out the ever-growing threat of settlement expansion and that this is an issue that the Quartet or the PA can't solve alone without the general public taking actions as-well.
He applauded the work that TABO is doing as-well as all its members.

Al-Sabawi was the main speaker of the event, Al-Sabawi like many Palestinian was born in the diaspora and lived his whole life outside of Palestine, he is a Canadian national, after graduating he decided to relocate to Palestine as he felt compelled to do so as a Palestinian and as an Arab. He was the first certified Geothermal engineer in the Middle East.

Al-Sabawi started his talk with this beautiful statement - "The biggest surprise going back to Palestine was the beauty that the land had to offer"
focusing on this and realizing that he was talking about his first visit ever to Palestine, It is hard to deny the sentiment in his words, specially using the words "going back" show how much of a devoted character he is to Palestine, even though he was born in the diaspora and his Arabic is not perfect, his identity remains as that of his ancestors that resided in Palestine, which makes this initiative much more appealing and powerful.

Al-Sabawi goes to state the prices of land in Palestine as the reason for the formation of TABO. He states that for example in Maysoun-Ramallah the price of a dunum(1000 Square Meters) is approximately one million dollars, while TABO offers land at the starting price of $13900 per dunum.
TABO uses the motto "Put Palestinian land into Palestinian hands".

The land plots that TABO offer are all located in Area A & Area B which fall under the jurisdiction of the Palestinian Authority deterring any takeover by Israel and making it near impossible. All land plots are connected by roads creating an expanding and permanent presence.
All the plots offered are within 9-25km from downtown Ramallah which averages to about a 20 minute drive.

Buying land in Palestine is a way to remain closer to the holy land and it offers an excellent investment opportunity and an alternate method of resistance, Israel uses an Ottoman law which states that if the land is not registered then Israel can claim it as government property. Which is dangerous and unlawful furthermore it should be known that approximately 70% of the land in the West-Bank is non-title deed land which in other words means that it is not registered.

TABO seeks out these land and seeks out owners that are willing to sell their land, handling all the legal procedures to acquire the land legally and lawfully.
Another thing TABO does is that they have made the process of buying land really easy through their website as-well as easing the payment method by offering installments in the form of a 20% down payment and then 8 quarterly payments over the course of 2 years.
The company also co-operates with the PA to ease the process of granting entry permits to land owners.

Al-Sabawi also pointed out that they are hopefully on opening a Gaza chapter in the coming years.
