A regional officer with the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) was taken into custody after he demanded a bribe of Rs. 150,000 from a local bulb distributor at Anuradhapura, police said today (July, 12).
According to police the suspect is alleged to have detected the bulbs with a fake price that had been distributed in the area by a dealer of a leading bulb exporter in the country.
The suspect is later alleged to have confronted the rogue dealer and threatened him with legal action if he fails to pay Rs. 150,000 in order to dump the case.
The man was nabbed by sleuths from the bribery Commission Department while accepting the money at his office inside the premises of the Divisional Secretariat, police added.
