RBC/RBTT kicks off Interscholastic Business Plan Competition 2012

~ With focus on the environment ~

Philipsburg--RBC/RBTT presented its first (annual) Interschool Business Plan Competition in St. Maarten on December 9. The Business Banking team, coordinators of the project, gave a presentation to the secondary school representatives present on Friday.

RBC/RBTT selected the environmental theme for this year's competition as part of the priority programme RBC Blue Water project to increase awareness on environmental issues in our communities, the importance of protecting it, while building on their business savvy.

All Secondary schools are invited to participate in the competition. There is a limit of one team per school. Teams of five students will represent their respective schools and will present the business plan before a jury during a forum presentation in World Water Week in March 2012. The plan will be adjudicated by an expert jury. All entries will be judged by the idea (product/service "live" prototype or concept), the business plan contents and the teamwork displayed throughout the process.

The assignment for the participating students is to create a product or service that has a positive environmental effect in a creative way, while enhancing their business knowledge to actually bring to market their creation.

Employees of the Business Banking unit of St. Maarten will soon start informational sessions at the schools. Each school will be asked to deliver a contact person that will work together with the RBTT Business Banking team to deliver the appropriate support for the teams in the form of educational and business coaching. Where mentorship is required, RBTT Business Banking Relationship Managers will support with the proper guidance to students.

The deadline to submit business plans is the second week of March 2012. On the day of the final showcase, teams will exhibit their live demo of their creation to a wider audience as part of the exhibition. The exhibition of the products or services is open to the public.

Winning teams and their respective schools can look forward to be awarded great prizes.
