Flags pulled out at Galle Book Fest

Visitors, both local and foreign at the Galle Literary Festival looked on in disgust as the local authorities pulled down the flags that decorated the venue inside the Old Dutch fort.

Dozens of life-sized flags were set up to brighten up the annual festival in and around the venue, as it is the case every year.

According to reports the local Municipal authorities had taken down the flags over a payment issue. The flags were however re-installed several hours later.

The Mayor of Galle-Methsiri De Silva could not be reached for comment.
