Fitness programme for public servants

A fitness programme for public servants will be launched by the�Ministry of Sports this week.

The Ministry of Sports said�that the� physical fitness programme will be implemented from October 6 at the Ministry to improve the fitness levels of the staff follwing a directive from President Mahinda Rajapaksa to�to facilitate the improvement of the physical health of the Government Servants and to improve their mental well being.


�This fitness programme that is aimed at maintaining strong mental development as well as to create an efficient Public Servant will be conducted on two (02) days weekly for an hour. Each officer participating in this programme will be made to go through a medical checkup and a personal medical file will be opened thereafter to check the progress every three (03) months.

Steps have already been taken to educate the staff about having balanced diets and correct dietary intakes. In addition� lectures will be conducted to give the staff the necessary technical knowledge needed to increase their physical well being.


The pilot fitness enhancement programme which will see the participation of approximately 250 staff officers from the Ministry of Sports and the Department of Sports Development will be conducted for a year.


The Ministry of Sports states that this pilot project will commence at 9.00am on Thursday�at the Department of Sports Development grounds with the presence of the Minister of Sports, Hon. Mahindananda Aluthgamage.
