Ogoundl, Jeffry form ?Gnration Solidaire?

MARIGOT--Union pour le Progrs (UP) Councillor and former First Vice-President Marthe Ogoundl emerged from the political wilderness last Friday to announce she is forming a party with Vice-President Louis Jeffry called "Gnration Solidaire" to contest the 2012 Territorial Elections. The announcement was made at a press conference Friday, but not all media were invited.

Ogoundl, who has rarely spoken publicly during the past two years and does not attend Territorial Council meetings regularly since dissenting with UP, will head the list. She showed allegiance to Daniel Gibb's Union for Democracy (UD) movement recently, but appears to have made a U-turn.

Louis Jeffry, whose portfolio includes education and youth matters, announced he also will run for the position of St. Martin's first Deputy Senator in 2012.

Part of the reason for the press conference was for Ogoundl to express her feelings about the state of education and the increasing "difficulty" of the annual back-to-school operation.

Ogoundl, a teacher at the Lyce and formerly in charge of education, has wide experience of the back-to-school exercise and juggling what children can be fitted into what schools, decisions that do not satisfy all parents.

Citing the lack of a "pilot" she has called for an Education Steering Committee that can bridge the gap between the Collectivit and the Rectorat to better manage the education system.

The first public meeting and press conference has been organised at Ruby Bute's home in Friars Bay tonight, Wednesday, at 6:00pm to officially announce the new party and its objectives.
