The Lankadeepa and Sunday Times provincial correspondent for Matara-Krishan Jeevaka Jayaruk was today threatened by a Provincial council member belonging to the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA).
In a statement to the Matara police Jayaruk stated that the PC Member had allegedly threatened him over the phone over a news article appearing in the Lankadeepa.
The PC Member is further alleged to have warned the correspondent if he should repeat such articles.
The article had questioned a large stock of gold found inside the PC Member’s resident at Matara.
The presence of the gold was known following a robbery on the PSC Member’s residence late last week.
The gold and the suspects were later arrested by police at a safe house in Panadura.
