A couple was taken into custody at Serunuwara in Trincomalee after they attempted to en cash fake currency notes at a temple fair yesterday police said today.
They said the couple residents of Swiss Village in Batticoloa had allegedly to pass on a fake Rs. 1,000 note to a trader at the fair when they were apprehended.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the couple had printed the fake notes inside a communication centre situated at Batticoloa that is owned by them.
Following the arrest the police were able to recover seven fake Rs. 1000 notes.
