Security guard is fourth homicide in eight days

BELAIR--The body of a security guard identified as Foidel Louis (46) was found on a dirt road at the rear of Learning Unlimited School early Saturday morning by a woman who was out walking her dog.

The victim was found lying on his back with a severe head injury, on the dirt track that leads to houses on the hill. The woman who found him lives in the area and is the wife of a local lawyer.

Police are treating Louis' death as a homicide ? the fourth in eight days, none of which has been solved.

Louis, a security guard and a national of Haiti who worked at Princess Port de Plaisance Resort Marina and at L'Esperance Hotel, was said to have been travelling between his work locations. He worked his 7:00-10:00pm shift at the marina and went home to collect food in Cole Bay prior to working at the hotel. It is not known how he intended to travel between his home and the next work location.

Police officers at the scene included officers of the Forensic Department and Deputy Commissioner Carl John. No comment was made by officers on the scene and members of the press were kept away from the area. The actual crime scene was even further back along the dirt road and had been taped off in the usual manner.

Police spokesman Inspector Ricardo Henson told the media that it appeared Louis had been beaten to death. Unconfirmed reports suggest that ambulance personnel heard a shot from somewhere in the vicinity during the relevant hours, but there is no indication from police as yet that Louis sustained any gunshot wounds.

The victim's family members reportedly have not yet been allowed to see the body of their relative.

The first of the four recent homicides was Ludovic Guillevin, a French yacht chef whose badly-battered body was found on Mullet Bay beach two Saturdays ago. The body of Eduardo Nova a 61-year-old Dominicano-Dutch man who was a boat air-conditioning fitter, was found in the bushes along Alexis Arnell Road on Friday morning. And a Dominicano man, Emilio de Leon-Reyes, was shot in Dutch Quarter on Friday evening and died later at St. Maarten Medical Center.

To date, there has been no indication from police of the motive for any of these murders.
