� � The family of a seaman who died on duty in September last year receiver US$ 158,000 approximately SLR 16 million as compensation, a senior official with the International Transport workers Federation (ITF) said today. � Ordinary Seaman, Benedict Perera died under unexplained circumstances while on Voyage in Central America on a Malta flagged vessel, ITF Inspector Ranjan Perera said. � He said the compensation money was handed over to his wife on Thursday this week. � The ITF along with the Total Crew Cost (TCC) had worked for several months to get this compensation for the victim’s family, he said. � The compensation was paid by the Protection and Indemnity Club that is headquartered in London.
