HARBOUR VIEW--The Council of Ministers once again has its full complement of seven ministers with the swearing-in of now-former senior civil servant Cornelius de Weever as Health, Social and Labour Minister on Thursday afternoon.
The council was operating with only six ministers since January 1 with the departure of former Minister Maria Buncamper-Molanus amidst a long-lease land scandal that broke in December.
The Health, Social Affairs and Labour Ministry had been overseen by Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams from January 1 to Thursday morning, before De Weever was sworn in.
De Weever repeated the oath of office before Governor Eugene Holiday in his office in Harbour View.
The new minister told The Daily Herald that his first task was to meet with the Council of Ministers, as it worked as a team for the interest of St. Maarten. Next will be meetings with stakeholders in the areas of health, social affairs and labour to get a lay of the land and updates on ongoing or outstanding projects.
Asked if he had any project he would be initiating, De Weever said it was too early to discuss such matters and emphasised that he first needed to get acquainted with the new role.
