MAHO--Ludovic Guillevin, the French chef of the megayacht Cheetah Moon, had only just come to the island on Friday evening and was dead by Saturday.
His fellow crew members are devastated by the crime, but at the same time are angered that the media on the island have "exaggerated" the story.
In an exclusive interview with The Daily Herald a fellow crew member who did not wish to be named said, "All the stories about the extent of his injuries have certainly not been told to us. The captain of the boat had seen Guillevin before he died and he had very bad head injuries, but his eyes had not been gouged out and some of the other stuff is just sick. It is not true. Guillevin had been stabbed and had been beaten about the head. It is terrible enough without more stories."
Other boat and yacht people around the marina were discussing the case and everywhere one went the talk was about Guillevin's death. One crew member of another boat said, "When a boat captain was shot in Anguilla a few years ago that marina was empty the following week. Everybody left. I do not know what will happen here. When people come back to the boats after the weekend we shall see."
Guillevin's crewmate said, "It is true, but this did not happen around the marina. We think this is maybe something to do with a gypsy taxi. Please warn the people in your newspaper that the gypsy taxis are a danger, not to use them."
Guillevin had just turned 37 and they had celebrated his birthday in December. He has had the same girlfriend for several years.
A group of three crewmen went out together to Jimbo's bar on Friday evening and then returned to the boat. Guillevin went out again on his own around midnight. He is believed to have gotten into a gypsy taxi somewhere on Airport Boulevard. He was found at Mullet Bay on Saturday having sustained severe head injuries and some stab wounds to the body which were described as being "not deep."
Guillevin was a professionally trained chef and amongst his previous employers was Duke Carl of Wurttemberg.
