Oregano & Olive Oil: Palestinian Prisoners Taught Me To Never Surrender.

alt

{Kuwait-PalTelegraph} As I write this there are over 3500 Palestinian prisoners leading an open-hunger strike since April 17th, the world continues to turn a blind eye to the Palestinian cause which is something that no longer surprises Palestinians.

It has become the norm for the world to not act when it comes to saving Palestine, we have become used to being punished for our victories and punished for our failures. As I looked towards Palestine from the diaspora horizon, I'm being taught daily that Palestine needs no saviors, for it has bred its own over the years.

Some people frown upon the idea of a hunger-strike, confusing an act of resistance with an attempt at suicide, they refuse to see the bigger picture in this rebellion.
While the Palestinian prisoners sit in their jail cells refusing food, their hunger has spread to the people outside the confinements of the iron bars that lock them down, their resistance has become amplified by the people that await their freedom on the outside of concrete walls.

While most have emphasized on how a hunger-strike can take its toll on a person, I want to talk about what the effects of prison can do to a person, most of the Palestinian prisoners are imprisoned without charge, they stand no trial yet remain confined for months on end, the only charge they witness is the prejudice of the Israeli "Justice" system.

We must also take into account the Palestinian whom are not held under administrative detention, are they any different?, well not really once it is brought to light that Israel has a 99.8% indictment rate, meaning only 2 of every 1000 Palestinian charged with a crime are acquitted.

Israeli prisons serve as punishment for any Palestinian opposing Israel and as a scare tactic to force Palestinians into obedience and to fear revolting.
Yet we are seeing resilience inside these very same prisons that are designed to break the wills of their inhabitants like we have never seen before, we are seeing Palestinians fight oppression not with a rock or with a gun but with an idea, with a simple act of resistance.
The simple act of refusing their meals have allowed the Palestinians prisoners to stand up and rise above oppression, it has made them stronger than their jailers, it has inspired people into believing that Palestine is near, that freedom is only a few steps away.

I have nothing but respect for the prisoners, they have truly showed me that surrendering is never acceptable and that resistance is always an option where-ever you are.
I refuse to read any of the wills the prisoners have written up, because I don't think I can bare it, it would take a toll on my heart and shatter it to pieces, I do however want to say that the prisoners will never die, they will forever be free and the only jail that will confine them is the hearts of Palestinians and Palestine.

Peace, Love & Solidarity.
