A tense situation has risen in Dambulla where a group of Buddhist monks have been demanding the demolition of a mosque which they claim has been constructed illegally and the Muslims in the area disputing their claim.
A group of Buddhist monks led by Ven Inamaluwe Shri Sumanagala therea demanded that the mosque should be demolished as no permission has been obtained for the construction of the mosque, but the Muslims in the area say that the moque construction commenced more than 50 years back.
A senior government official who visited the area has said that action will be taken to demolish the mosque as it was illegal and no permission had been taken to construct the building.
